Giving Notice

Notice of Intended Marriage

In Australia, Under Section 42 of the Marriage Act 1961, you MUST fill in a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) Form, which is lodged with your authorized marriage celebrant.

You will need to give at least one month and one day's notice of intension to marry before the event, but not more than 18 months before.  Please see page 2 of the NOIM for complete instructions.

Both bride and Groom are required to fill out the NOIM and have their signatures witnessed by any of the specified people below or by your authorized marriage celebrant.

MARRIAGE OF ANY PERSON UNDER 18 YEARS WITHOUT AN ORDER OF A JUDGE OR MAGISTRATE IS INVALID

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN 2 PERSONS UNDER 18 YEARS MARRY EACH OTHER

How to lodge your NOIM.

The date your completed NOIM form, is received in person or by mail by your authorized marriage celebrant, is your official date of lodgment.  If your intended day of marriage is so close that it is necessary to mail your NOIM before we meet, please contact me with out delay.
